President's Message
Congratulations to the 2008 Conference co-chairs, Terry Barton and Kathryn Dere, and their industrious committee, Shirl Rogers, Nancy Scott, Karen Gurtiz, Sloan Bartlett, Brandee Heath, Ron Sotomayor, Patrice Muse, Maria Soto, Debbie Gonzalez, Maria Dominico, Georgene Hadley, Brenda Reinert, and Robin Ortez. The FAET 30th Annivesary conference was a tremendous success due to their hard work and effort. The committee went all out with decorations, gifts, and prizes galore. What a celebration!
It was a pleasure to see and chat with old friends and colleagues. In attendance were pioneers of Florida ET nursing – Dona Mann, Gloria Merwerth, and Julie Maloy, past FAET Presidents and board members, as well as, several former members who came from out of state for the event. The educational presentations were outstanding and the facility were superb.
As we continue to move forward, FAET has applied to the Florida Board of Nursing to be a CE Provider. Many hospitals are now charging for this service. Being a provider will aid future conference committees with conference planning and awarding of contact hours.
Amparo Cano and Anna Alvarez have volunteered to be the FAET advocate liaisons. They will serve as contacts for the membership with legislative and professional issues. This is a new role that I hope will benefit members and our patients.
A membership survey was conduced at the conference. The board members will review the information at the fall board meeting. Details will be published in the newsletter.
The 2009 conference will be held in Gainesville. Shirl Rogers is chairperson.
With the dynamic membership and hard working board of directors, FAET has many more great years ahead.
